How to Cope with Weather Effects on LED Stadium Lights?

Although LED stadium lights are designed for all-weather use, extreme weather can still cause problems. Here are some common weather effects and corresponding countermeasures:

Lightning Strikes: High-mast stadium lights are high-risk targets for lightning strikes. A comprehensive lightning protection system (lightning rod, down conductor, grounding grid) should be installed, and surge protectors (SPDs) should be installed in the distribution box. If a light fixture is damaged by lightning, the driver and LEDs should be inspected, and damaged parts should be replaced.

Typhoons/Strong Winds: Strong winds may cause the light fixtures to shift at the angle or loosen the fixing bolts. Countermeasures: Check fasteners before the annual windy season; when wind speeds exceed design values, it is recommended to lower the light pole (for lift-type lights) or turn off the power in advance.

Heavy Rain: Rainwater may seep in through aging seals. Countermeasures: Regularly check the seals; after heavy rain, promptly check for water ingress in the light fixtures, clean the water, and replace the seals.

Snow and Ice: Snow covering the light surface will block light, and its weight may break the glass. Solutions:

Heating Devices: Install heating devices (optional for some high-end lamps) or use snow-melting coatings; lamps can also be designed with a slight tilt to allow snow to slide off.

High Temperatures: Direct sunlight in summer, combined with the lamp's own heat, may cause the driver to trigger overheat protection.
Solutions: Ensure good heat dissipation for the lamps; install sunshades if necessary; select a wide-temperature-range driver (operating temperature -40°C to +70°C).

Dense Fog: Fog severely attenuates light, especially high color temperature light.
Solutions: In foggy areas, use low color temperature lamps (3000K-4000K) as they have stronger penetrating power; also, appropriately increase the illuminance design value.

Dust: Dust can abrade glass and coatings, and clog heat sink fins.
Solutions: Clean regularly; use wear-resistant glass and IP65 or higher protection. Through proper selection and regular maintenance, the impact of weather can be minimized.
