Tunnel lighting differs significantly from standard roadway lighting. LED tunnel lights must meet the following specific requirements:
1. Gradual Illuminance Transition at Entrances and Transition Zones: The tunnel entrance must provide high illuminance (approaching the brightness levels outside the tunnel), which then gradually decreases toward the levels in the central section; this helps eliminate the "black hole effect." LED systems can easily achieve multi-level illuminance through dimming.
2. Emergency Lighting: Tunnels must be equipped with emergency lighting to maintain basic illumination (typically 10%–20% of normal levels) during power outages. LED fixtures can incorporate built-in batteries or be connected to an Emergency Power Supply (EPS) system.
3. Glare Control: Due to the low reflection coefficient of tunnel walls, glare can easily occur; therefore, anti-glare louvers or deep-recessed lenses should be used.
4. Ingress Protection (IP) Rating: Given the humid environment, vehicle exhaust, and dust present in tunnels, fixtures with an IP rating of IP66 or higher are recommended.
5. Heat Dissipation: Air circulation in tunnels—especially in the middle sections of long tunnels—is often poor. Proper heat dissipation for LED fixtures is essential; in some cases, forced-air or water-cooling systems may be required.
6. Vibration Resistance: To withstand vibrations caused by passing traffic, fixtures must feature a robust structural design with secure, vibration-proof fasteners.
7. Color Temperature: A color temperature range of 4000K–5000K is recommended, as it closely matches natural daylight, thereby reducing the time required for the human eye to adjust.
8. Intelligent Control: Illuminance levels in different sections of the tunnel can be dynamically adjusted based on traffic volume and external ambient brightness, enhancing both energy efficiency and safety.
When purchasing LED tunnel lights, ensure that the products feature specialized tunnel-grade light distribution (such as asymmetric/polarized lenses) and carry certification in compliance with the Chinese transportation industry standard JT/T 609-2004.
