Although LED streetlights require significantly less maintenance than traditional streetlights, they still necessitate the following periodic upkeep:
Daily: Monitor the lighting status and record the locations and nature of any lights that are off or functioning abnormally.
Weekly: Inspect the switches, contactors, and time-control switches within the control box to ensure they are operating correctly; listen for any unusual sounds.
Monthly: Perform random spot checks on the illuminance of select streetlights and compare the results against initial baseline values; clean the surfaces of the light covers (if significant dirt is present); and check the vertical alignment of the light poles, as well as the foundations for any signs of settlement.
Quarterly: Check all wiring terminals for looseness; inspect the status indicator lights on surge protection devices; and examine cables for any damage or signs of aging.
Semi-annually: Test the grounding resistance (which should be ≤4Ω); spot-check and tighten fasteners on the light poles and fixtures; and inspect the cooling fins for dust accumulation, cleaning them with compressed air if necessary.
Annually: Engage a professional organization to assess the lighting quality across the entire road (including illuminance, uniformity, color temperature, and flicker); inspect the lightning protection system; and touch up the anti-corrosion coatings on the light poles. Maintain comprehensive maintenance records, documenting the cumulative operating hours, lumen depreciation data, and repair history for each individual light. Implementing such preventive maintenance can significantly reduce the rate of unexpected failures and extend the overall service life of the streetlights.
