Installation Height: Standard streetlights typically range from 6 to 12 meters in height, whereas high-mast lights range from 15 to 45 meters.
Pole Structure: Standard streetlight poles usually feature single or double arms, supporting one or two luminaires at the top. High-mast poles are much sturdier (with a base diameter of 300–600 mm) and feature a circular or polygonal mounting platform at the top that supports multiple luminaires (typically 4 to 16).
Illumination Range: A single standard streetlight covers a radius of approximately 10 to 20 meters, while a single high-mast light assembly (comprising multiple luminaires) can cover a radius of 50 to 150 meters or more.
Illuminance Uniformity: High-mast lights achieve high uniformity over large areas through precise light distribution and the overlapping of multiple light sources; standard streetlights rely primarily on appropriate pole spacing to ensure uniformity.
Application Scenarios: Standard streetlights are used for urban roads, streets, and residential roadways. High-mast lights are used in open areas such as major interchanges, ports, airports, freight yards, and large public squares.
Maintenance: Standard streetlights usually require aerial work platforms or manual pole climbing for maintenance. High-mast lights (especially the lowering type) allow the mounting platform to be lowered to the ground for maintenance, making the process safer and more convenient.
Cost: The investment cost for a single high-mast light unit is far higher than that of a standard streetlight; however, due to the extensive coverage area, the cost of illumination per unit area may actually be lower.
Lighting Control: High-mast lights often require zoned control (e.g., controlling inner and outer rings of lights separately) to adapt to different times of day and activity requirements, whereas standard streetlights are usually controlled as a single group. Consequently, the two types are not interchangeable.
