Routine maintenance is essential to ensure the long-term safe and reliable operation of high-mast lights. Maintenance tasks include:
Daily: Visually inspect the lights to ensure they are operating correctly; check for unlit or flickering lamps and any tilting of the mast.
Weekly: Check the control box for abnormal odors, smoke, or signs of water ingress; inspect the exterior of the luminaire assembly for bird nests or hanging objects.
Monthly: Check all fastening bolts (especially anchor bolts and assembly connection bolts) for looseness; inspect steel cables for visible broken strands or corrosion; verify that the lifting system's manual crank handle is in place.
Quarterly: Perform a lifting test (for lowering-type systems) to ensure smooth operation and reliable limit switch function; clean luminaire glass covers and heat sink fins; inspect cables for signs of aging or damage.
Semi-annually: Measure the mast's verticality (using a theodolite) and record trends; check grounding resistance (should be ≤4Ω); apply grease to the lifting system's winch gearbox; check the status indicator light on the surge protection device.
Annually: Commission a professional agency to conduct a comprehensive safety inspection, including mast wall thickness/corrosion checks, non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds, magnetic particle testing of steel cables, electrical insulation testing, and illuminance testing. Establish maintenance records documenting the work performed and any issues discovered. In corrosive environments—such as coastal areas or chemical plants—inspection frequency should be doubled, and anti-corrosion touch-up painting should be performed regularly.
