When installing LED floodlights, in addition to meeting lighting needs, the heat dissipation of the fixture itself and safe spacing must also be considered.
Distance from adjacent surfaces: At least 30-50 cm of clearance should be maintained around the fixture to ensure free airflow over the heat dissipation fins. Installation in recesses, corners, or close to walls (back against a wall) will severely hinder heat dissipation, leading to increased junction temperature and shortened lifespan. For high-power (≥200W) floodlights, a gap of at least 10 cm from the back wall and at least 20 cm from the sides is recommended.
Spacing between fixtures: When multiple floodlights are installed side-by-side, a spacing of at least 1-2 times the width of the fixture is recommended to avoid mutual heating. If a close arrangement is necessary (e.g., a matrix array), forced air cooling or a reduction in total power should be considered. Distance from flammable materials: Although the surface temperature of LED floodlights is much lower than that of halogen lamps, the surface temperature of inferior products or those with poor heat dissipation can still exceed 80°C. Therefore, the light fixture casing should be at least 30 cm away from flammable materials such as wood, fabric, and plastic. Light fixtures should not be installed directly on wooden boards (unless insulated).
Relationship between installation height and spacing: To achieve uniform illumination, the spacing between floodlights should generally not exceed 1.5 times the installation height (for wide-angle lights) or 1 times the installation height (for narrow-angle lights). For example, at an installation height of 5 meters, the recommended spacing for wide-angle floodlights is no more than 7.5 meters; for narrow-angle lights, no more than 5 meters, otherwise dark areas will appear on the ground.
Cable wiring spacing: Power lines and signal lines (if any) should be run separately to avoid interference between high-voltage and low-voltage signals. If crossing is unavoidable, they should be perpendicular rather than parallel. Finally, maintenance access should be considered during installation: sufficient space should be left under the light fixtures for personnel or elevator access for future cleaning and maintenance.
