1. Excessive driver output current: The drive current exceeds the LED chip's rated value (e.g., a chip rated for 350mA driven at 500mA), causing burnout due to overheating. Measure the driver's output current and replace the driver if it exceeds specifications.
2. Poor heat dissipation: Excessive junction temperature causes the LED chips to burn out. Check if the heat sink is obstructed and ensure the installation environment is well-ventilated.
3. Voltage spikes: Voltage spikes caused by lightning strikes or the starting/stopping of heavy equipment on the power grid can damage the LED chips. Install a surge protection device in the distribution box.
4. Poor LED chip quality: Use of substandard LED chips or phosphors. Replace the fixture with one that uses high-quality, branded LED chips.
5. Soldering issues: Cold solder joints or poor connections can lead to open circuits caused by thermal expansion and contraction. Replace the LED board.
6. Frequent switching: Although LEDs are durable regarding switching, the frequent charging and discharging of capacitors within the driver can generate surges that affect the LED chips. Minimize unnecessary switching.
7. Moisture ingress: Seal failure allows moisture to corrode the LED chips. Replace the sealing gasket and ensure the unit is dried out. If failures are frequent, replace the fixtures in batches rather than attempting repeated repairs, as there may be fundamental flaws in the design or the operating environment.
