Although both stadium lights and standard high-bay lights are designed for illuminating large, high-ceilinged spaces, their design philosophies and performance requirements differ significantly.
First, requirements for luminous flux and illuminance differ: Standard high-bay lights used in factories and warehouses typically require illuminance levels of only 200–500 lux, with a single-lamp output of approximately 10,000–40,000 lumens. In contrast, professional stadiums require competition-grade illuminance of 1,000–2,000 lux (horizontal) and 700–1,500 lux (vertical), with single-lamp outputs reaching 80,000–300,000 lumens.
Second, light distribution precision differs: Stadium lights must utilize very narrow beam angles (10°–30°) and asymmetric lenses to precisely confine light to the competition area, thereby preventing light pollution and glare. High-bay lights, however, typically employ wide beam angles (60°–120°) to achieve broad, uniform coverage.
Third, requirements for Color Rendering Index (CRI) and color temperature differ: Stadium lights require a CRI of ≥90 and a color temperature between 5000K and 6500K to ensure color accuracy for television broadcasting. High-bay lights generally require a CRI of ≥80, with color temperatures primarily ranging from 4000K to 5000K.
Fourth, anti-glare design differs: Stadium lights must be equipped with visors or utilize cut-off designs to minimize glare for athletes and spectators; high-bay lights have less stringent requirements in this regard.
Fifth, control systems differ: Stadium lights usually require integration with DMX512 or DALI systems to enable functions such as scene switching, dimming, and color adjustment. High-bay lights typically require only simple on/off switching or grouped control.
Sixth, ingress protection (IP) ratings differ: Outdoor stadium lights require a rating of IP65 or higher, along with resistance to corrosion and wind-induced vibration, whereas indoor high-bay lights generally require ratings between IP20 and IP44. Consequently, high-bay lights cannot be directly substituted for stadium lighting, as they would fail to meet the necessary standards for performance and safety.
