For instance, consider a port facility originally using 1000W high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps (with an efficacy of approximately 90 lm/W and an actual luminous flux of about 90,000 lumens) that requires a ground illuminance of 30 lux. If an LED with an efficacy of 150 lm/W is selected, only 600W is needed to generate 90,000 lumens; however, due to the superior light distribution precision and higher utilization factor of LEDs, the same illuminance level might actually be achieved with just 500W.
Common wattage ratings for LED high-mast lights on the market include 150W, 200W, 240W, 300W, 360W, 400W, 480W, 600W, 720W, 800W, and 960W. For exceptionally tall masts (over 40 meters) or specialized applications requiring very high illuminance, 1200W or 1500W LED fixtures may also be used.
When purchasing, one should not simply compare wattage figures; instead, it is advisable to request IES files from the manufacturer and verify the required power and quantity through lighting simulation analysis.
