If an LED floodlight seems dimmer than anticipated after installation, it is not necessarily due to insufficient brightness from the fixture itself; the issue is likely caused by one of the following factors:
First, the installation height is excessive. For the same fixture, the illuminance on the ground differs fourfold between a mounting height of 5 meters and 10 meters. If you selected a wattage based on a 5-meter height but installed it at 10 meters, it will naturally appear dim. Solution: Lower the installation height, or switch to a fixture with higher wattage or a narrower beam angle.
Second, the beam angle was chosen incorrectly. For instance, using a narrow-beam fixture in a setting that requires broad, uniform illumination results in a bright spot surrounded by darkness, creating an overall dim impression. You should switch to a wide-beam fixture or increase the number of fixtures.
Third, there are insufficient fixtures. No matter how high the wattage of a single light is, it cannot illuminate a large area effectively because light intensity drops off rapidly with distance. Increase the number of fixtures and distribute them evenly.
Fourth, low environmental reflectivity. If the illuminated surface is black asphalt, dark soil, or a dirty wall, it will absorb most of the light, making the area appear dim. Indoors, dark walls and floors can also create a dim atmosphere. This can be improved by increasing the illuminance level or changing the surface color.
Fifth, lumen depreciation or dirt accumulation. The fixture may have been in use for a long time (causing lumen depreciation), or the glass lens may be covered in dust, reducing light output. Clean or replace the fixture.
Sixth, insufficient supply voltage. Excessively long power cables or cables with a gauge that is too thin can cause a voltage drop, preventing the driver from delivering full power. Measure the voltage at the fixture's input; if it is below 85% of the rated value, you need to use thicker cables or shorten the distance.
Seventh, misunderstanding brightness units. You might have purchased a fixture with low luminous efficacy (e.g., 80 lm/W) while assuming it would be as bright as one with high efficacy. Compare lumen output rather than wattage. Before purchasing, request an IES test report from the supplier and conduct on-site sample testing; do not rely on guesswork or intuition.
