What are the common issues with 100W LED floodlights?

100W is a very common power rating for LED floodlights, frequently used for medium-sized factory buildings, parking lots, small sports stadiums, and building facades. Below are the most common issues associated with 100W LED floodlights, along with brief analyses.

1.  Flickering: Usually caused by driver failure, unstable voltage, or dimming incompatibility. Solution: Replace with a branded driver and check the wiring.

2.  Overheating: A 100W fixture generates approximately 60–70W of heat. Insufficient heat sink surface area or poor ventilation in the installation environment can lead to overheating, resulting in accelerated lumen depreciation or automatic thermal protection shutdowns. Improve heat dissipation or choose a product with a superior thermal design.

3.  Uneven Illumination: 100W fixtures often come with a fixed beam angle (e.g., 120°); if installed too high, the center appears bright while the edges are dim. Solutions include using different lenses (e.g., 90° or 60°) or adjusting the fixture layout.

4.  Water Ingress: Caused by aging seals, cracked glass, or loose screws allowing moisture to enter. Immediately cut off power, clean the unit, and reseal it.

5.  Rapid Lumen Depreciation: Brightness drops significantly after just a few months of use. This is generally due to poor heat dissipation or the use of low-quality LED chips. When purchasing, opt for products with branded chips and robust thermal management structures.

6.  Some LEDs Not Lighting Up: An open circuit in a series-connected string of LEDs causes the entire string to fail. The faulty LED or the entire LED board needs to be replaced.

7.  Startup Delay or Faint Glow After Power-Off: Startup delay may be due to poor low-temperature performance of the driver; a faint glow after power-off is often caused by reversed live/neutral wiring or induced current.

8.  Flickering After Turning Off: Usually caused by the switch controlling the neutral wire instead of the live wire.

9.  Housing Corrosion: Standard fixtures used in coastal areas or near chemical plants will rust quickly. Marine-grade, corrosion-resistant models should be used.

10. Lightning Damage: Caused by a lack of surge protection. It is recommended to install a lightning protection module upstream of the 100W fixture. When purchasing, prioritize products featuring branded drivers, die-cast aluminum heat sinks, an IP66 (or higher) rating, and third-party test reports.
