How can the flickering issue with high-mast lights be resolved?

Resolving the flickering issue requires targeted measures based on the specific cause. Below is a systematic solution:

Step 1: Determine the scope of the flickering. If all lights on the mast flicker simultaneously, focus on checking the supply voltage and the main switch. Connect a voltmeter in parallel at the control box's power input to monitor voltage fluctuations. If fluctuations exceed ±10%, contact the utility company or install a voltage stabilizer.

Step 2: Inspect the main contactor. Pitted contacts or unstable engagement within the contactor can cause flickering. After cutting off the power, remove the arc chute and inspect the contact surfaces; if they are uneven or show black oxidation, repair them with a fine file or replace the contactor.

Step 3: Troubleshoot by circuit. If only a specific circuit flickers, check that circuit's circuit breaker, contactor, and cable connections. Pay special attention to whether cable joints have been exposed to water (e.g., accumulated water in underground cable pits); dry them out and apply waterproofing treatment.

Step 4: Check the luminaire driver. Swap the driver of the flickering light with that of a functioning light; if the fault moves to the other light, the original driver is defective and should be replaced.

Step 5: Inspect the dimming system. If the dimming signal comes from a remote controller, temporarily disconnect the signal wire (most drivers default to full brightness when the signal input is left floating). If the flickering stops, the issue lies with signal interference or a controller malfunction; install a signal isolator or replace the controller.

Step 6: Check grounding and EMC. Ensure the high-mast light's grounding resistance is ≤4Ω and that the control box contains an EMC filter. In environments with high electromagnetic interference, install a ferrite ring in series with the input of each driver.

Step 7: If the above steps fail, excessive harmonics in the power supply line (e.g., caused by variable frequency drives) may be the cause; an active harmonic filter should be installed. After resolving the flickering, monitor the system for a period to ensure the issue does not recur.
