First, energy efficiency: LED luminous efficacy ranges from 130 to 180 lm/W, whereas metal-halide lamps offer only 65 to 100 lm/W. To achieve the same level of illuminance, LEDs consume only 50% to 75% of the power used by metal-halide lamps. Third, instant-on capability: LEDs require no warm-up time and reach full brightness immediately upon activation. This makes them ideal for energy-saving measures during halftime and for handling unexpected situations (such as restoring lighting after a sudden power outage during a night game).
Fourth, flicker-free operation: High-quality LED drivers combined with appropriate PWM frequencies (≥3000 Hz) or CCR dimming can completely eliminate flicker, meeting the requirements for high-speed photography and ultra-slow-motion replays.
Fifth, precise light distribution: Through secondary optical design (using lenses or reflectors), LED fixtures can achieve highly precise light distribution curves, confining light to the playing field and minimizing light pollution and glare.
Sixth, high color rendering: LEDs can achieve a CRI of over 90 and an R9 (deep red) value exceeding 50. This ensures the accurate reproduction of colors for athletes' uniforms, the ball, and the turf, thereby enhancing the spectator experience and the quality of television broadcasts.
Seventh, dimmability: LEDs allow for smooth dimming (0%–100%), whereas dimming metal-halide lamps is difficult and tends to shorten their lifespan. Dimming capabilities enable stadiums to adjust illuminance levels based on the specific event (e.g., training sessions, amateur matches, professional games, or concerts), leading to further energy savings.
Eighth, intelligent control: LED fixtures can integrate with DMX512, DALI, or wireless control systems, enabling individual light control, preset lighting scenes, remote monitoring, and fault alerts. Ninth, environmental friendliness: LEDs do not contain harmful substances such as mercury or lead, making disposal straightforward.
